When my fiancé and I decided to start our own business, we had no idea that owning a double-decker coffee trailer would be such an amazing and lucrative adventure. On our small plot of land we decided to focus on the development of mobile coffee bars, catering to events in our community, festivals, and large companies and events. Not only did we see the potential for matching the right combination of fantastic coffee with a gorgeous presentation, we took enjoyment in building our business.

We purchased large second-hand double-decker trailers from a repurposed trailer dealer, so we could provide events around our area with the highest-quality mobile coffee bars out there. We went back and forth between standard large trailer sizes, coffee machines, water filtration systems, and the layout of the trailer bar, until we eventually had the perfect combination of all four.

A few years back, I was a corporate employee in an office with no fresh air, and moldy carpets. Every day after working hours, I looked forward to the sweet delights of my favorite caffeine-fueled beverage. And with that thought, I was inspired to make my own business and bring that flavor to people’s lives.

After months of researching numerous options, I decided that a coffee trailer was the perfect choice. It represented a unique approach to my business and also a brilliant opportunity to make a difference within my community. As for my food menu and taste, I decided to focus on simple yet delicious creations, all taking an artisanal twist in terms of decor and presentation.

When I was asked to share the story of my coffee trailer, I couldn’t help but feel incredibly proud and excited about what I’d achieved. To provide you with some background, I was an accountant for many years, and even though I loved my job, I realized I’d always had another dream lurking away at the back of my mind; to own a coffee trailer. And so, after a lot of hard work and dedication, that’s exactly what I did.

The first few weeks were all about getting to know the ins and outs of the food industry. I attended shows and seminars where I could meet like-minded entrepreneurs who were in the same position I’d been in. We shared stories, and advice about how we’d go about setting up our respective businesses. It was really inspiring, and it motivated me to continue moving forward.

When it comes to taking your business on the road, there are few better options than owning a double-decker food trailer. If you’re a caterer, street food vendor, or food truck owner looking to increase your service capacity and expand your business presence, a double-decker can be the perfect mobile vehicle. This type of trailer is capable of providing an array of unique advantages for food businesses. Here are a few of the beneficial features that come with owning a double-decker.

Double Decker Food Trailer

The first and most obvious advantage of a double-decker food trailer is its size. With two levels of working space, it’s like getting two food businesses in one. On the lower level, you can place all of your kitchen equipment and supplies, such as fridges, freezers, cookers, work benches and much more. Then, on the second floor, your staff can work simultaneously in the prep and service areas with plenty of room and accessibility. As I sit here in my vintage-style trailer selling coffee and espresso drinks to customers throughout my city, I think back on the day that I decided to switch career paths and become a coffee cart vendor. No more 9–5 job for me — now I was going to be my own boss and make a living on my own terms. As crazy as it may sound, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made and I couldn’t be happier.

Working in my own coffee trailer has opened up a whole world of possibilities to me. I get to make my own schedule, set my own prices and even decided which types of coffees and specialty drinks I want to offer my customers. These little details have allowed me to customize my business to the things I am passionate about.

Starting a food trailer business is an attractive and viable option for many aspiring entrepreneurs. In addition to lower start up costs and greater flexibility than that of a traditional restaurant, a food trailer affords potentialowners increased opportunities for income and creativity. Therefore, here are the main reasons why you should consider a food trailer.

First, the startup costs of a food trailer business are much lower than that of a brick-and-mortar restaurant. Generally, it is estimated that starting a food truck business can cost anywhere from $15,000-$50,000, while a restaurant can cost upwards of around $250,000 to open the doors. I started my food trailer business over two years ago and it has been a great experience for me. I purchased a 16ft food trailer and started off slowly with a limited menu. My goal was to slowly build my customer base and expand on the menu.

Once I had some offerings in place, I began to go to festivals, craft fairs, and other local events. I used these opportunities to gauge customer feedback and make sure that my food was providing a unique and much-needed culinary experience. Over time I’ve been able to increase the offerings from my food trailer and develop more variety into the menu.
